Nothing yet, but I've been away and unable to work on it for a while.
I'll post something when and if I succeed.

Mister Grumpy did you get the cover off?
 

Nothing worked to get the cover unscrewed from the frame. We ended up
removing the frame from the fiberglass cockpit floor using a sharpened
putty knife and a hammer, along with some heat. Then we installed a
new white plastic cover assembly of the same size. The old cover is
going into the trash, still fused into its frame.

Thanks to everyone who made suggestions.
