What They Didn't Tell Me about Owning A Boat

I remember looking to buy my first boat for about 4 months. But for some
reason it wasn't until the day AFTER I bought that first boat that people
started telling me:

You know what BOAT stands for don't you?
Break Out Another Thousdand

You know what a boat is don't you?
A hole in the water you throw money into.

You know what the happiest two day' of a boat owner's life are, don't you?
The day he buys the boat and the day he sells it.

You know how to become a millionare don't you?
Start with two million and buy a boat?

Etc.

You're quite the ray of sunshine.
Most of us are longing to be back in a boat after a long brutal winter.
Leave us alone with out fantasies.

I just think it's was a little funny.
I have loved my boats and all the money,
time and energy needed to keep them going.

Mostly it was just supposed to be something boat related instead of politic.

I like hearing those old sayings. No worries, though, beginning boaters
can't quite "get it" even if they are told. It's a little like trying to
describe to young adults how difficult it is to raise children properly, and
yet how rewarding. You just have to do it. Doing it makes no logical sense,
but that's not at all the point.

Ever notice that most of the "boat is a hole in the water......etc" comments
come from people who coudln't afford to own a couple of patched innertubes in
order to float their butts on a plank?

"Yeah, sure, I looked into buying a boat. I'm too smart for that. It's a hole
in the water and etc. By the way, can I borrow $20 until payday? The *******
manager threatened to lock me out of the trailer park if I didn't catch up the
space rent for my mow-bull home."

Besides, you can't take it with you.

Wasn't it Mark Twain that said you're more likely to regret the things you
wanted to do, but didn't, than the things your shouldn't have done, but did?

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed
by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do.

So throw off the bowlines.
Sail away from the safe harbor.
Catch the trade winds in your sails.
Explore. Dream. Discover."
- Mark Twain -

And there's another one about nothing being more satisfying than "simply messing
about in boats"

"I must go down to the seas again..."

"In the middle of the week
In the middle of the day
In the middle of the summer
In the middle of the bay
Boots kicked off, feet out to dry
Lying on the cuddy counting clouds in the sky
Throw her down and take a break
To hell with profits you won't make
Take her slack cause you deserve
To rock yourself on the ocean."
- Buddy Wasisname and the Other Fellers

Nope: Found them in a small music store in Cape Breton Island ("Charlie's
Country Store" or something) when I was there 20 yrs ago. Had the CD stolen, but
wanted the words to "Glory Be" and found their website:
