Kayak School
Hi,
I live in NJ (near NYC) and am looking for beginning Whitewater Kayak instruction for my wife and I. I have found the following schools reasonably close to us: Northeast PA School, www.kayakschool.com , $219/2 day Extreme Adventure Travel, www.extremeadventuretravel.com, $180/2day Whitewater Challengers, www.whitewaterchallengers.com, $159/2 day Does anyone have any recommendations or experience with any of these schools? Extreme Adventure Travel seems to be the only one of these to also offer intermediate courses. Should this be a factor in case we want to pursue kayaking further? I appreciate any advice. Thanks Sal |
Hey there Sal,
Best way is hook up with local clubs. Ours offers beginners through advanced level II all for the price of club membership. Advanced level II is by invitation only. I am not familiar with those schools, but there are some fine ones out there, I still feel clubs are a greart way to get started, you usually keep in contact with others on your level, in your class, have people to advance with, etc. Mike wrote in message oups.com... Thanks Sal You might check out Zoar Outdoor at http://www.zoaroutdoor.com/. I'm thinking about taking a coarse from them soon. I feel fortunate to work at a college with a very active outdoor program and often get advise from them. - Daniel |

They offer a lot of different courses. http://www.amc-ny.org/rec_actv/canoe/ckcorsed.html Speaking of Zoar, I ran the gap successfully for the first time on Saturday (OC2, bow paddler). I've been so psyched ever since--it was exhilarating! We took the river left route, for those of you who know the rapid... Deb R. |
Hi Sal,
I would suggest you join the Kayak & Canoe Club of New York (KCCNY) http://www.kccny.com/ They are a great bunch of folks that have been around for a long time. They have many local trips that are geared towards the beginner. Hope this helps...
