Evinrude Fuel Hose Diameters

I have a 1988 Evinrude 150 VRO. The owners manual that states that the
fuel line to the engine is 3/8" ID, but does not say anything about the
lines inside the engine cover. I believe the in-line fuel filter and
lines up to the fuel pump are supposed to be 5/16" ID, but do not know
for sure. Many different hands have worked on this engine over the
years, so I was wondering if any Evinrude/Johnson experts out there
would know for sure the proper ID lines inside the cowling.

Thanks, HHatch

For what its worth, my large 80's V6 johnson has the larger line
running to the engine (I'll assume its 3/8 without looking at it -
definitely larger than the fuel lines at the fuel pump, etc. inside
the cowling) and inside it's 5/8. The little fuel filter inside the
cowling is definitely 5/8 (just replaced it). I'm not sure if you're
asking just so you'd know which to buy (in which case, you could just
remove the old one and look at it), or if you're wondering if 5/8 is
stock and/or the proper diameter. I do believe it is the
original/proper diameter for those lines.

5 EIGHTHS? That would be humongous.

I think you meant 5/16"

The current filter and lines inside the cowling are 5/16. As you
mention, that's what I was wondering - is 5/16 stock? Apparently yes.
Thanks for the info. HH

According to the factory service recommendations, V6 outboards should have
3/8" fuel lines from the tank to the motor's fuel inlet fitting. Make sure
it uses a 3/8" primer ball also.

I think you mean 5/16" lines inside the cowling, not 5./8".
