I don't know much about boats. Infact never even owned one. This guy that is
one of my customers said he would sell me his boat. It is a 1976 Thunder Craft. Mercury Motor about 80 horses he thinks. Hydraulic lift and tilt trailer. Fiberglass deck and the rest of the boat is fiberglass. The condition of the boat is bad. All the seats are torn and stuff. So, is Mercury a good engine? Is it worth it to pay $250 if the engine runs? Thanks, Jason |

My father-in-law had a ThunderCraft, Solid boat. seats can be ordered/made.
Watch for rotten stringers. A 105 H.P. Chrysler did it proud. You'll get out of it what you put into it. Happy boating. Mike SHIZNAZ "Jason" wrote in message news:avnbc.164674$Cb.1657153@attbi_s51... Jason,
Stringers are the wooden supports between the hull and the flooring. This area is a trouble spot for rot, typically because water can get in but it's difficult to get out. It's best to expose a side section of a stringer and poke around with a sharp object. There's a nice book called "Runabout Renovation", available at amazon for $12. The boat discusses locating a good boat to restore, then how to restore it. It focuses on 70's outboards. It will tell you what to look for when evaluating a used boat.
