It's local opening of Salmon season, so I am going boating!
Off to the party at Moss Landing, on Monterey bay for the opening of the
southern zone salmon fishing. Sunny, wind calming down. Harry, you ought to really buy a boat, so you can relax. |

Well, after over 20 years, I decided NOT to get a sal****er fishing license this year. Just not enough salmon around to warrant it, and the "Rockfish Conservation Areas" mean I can't put a line over when I'm at anchor :( I did renew my freshwater license, though - there are still trout to be had! I can't believe you said that Lloyd. I live in Sequim and punched 38
salmon last year. This season is forecast to be just as good. Gordon (Yah, still eating frozen salmon) "Lloyd Sumpter" wrote in message ... OOoooo....them's fightin' words! ;) First, the fish-farms here use Atlantic Salmon (they grow faster, or are less susceptible to disease, or something), which is one of the main objections to the fish-farms. Also, in terms of fishing, them wimpy Atlantic smelt are nothing compared to a 30-lb Chinook! Lloyd |

We went to the party at Moss landing below Santa Cruz on Monterey bay. Had been windy for most of the week, but the winds died and the bay got better until noon, when the wind came up. We landed 2 fish total for 2 guys. a 9# and a 12# fish. Very nice fish. Gave some to my next door neighbor, and he said was fantastic. I ate some, fried in the left over butter from sautéing mushrooms. A few hits, with out sticking the fish. Only problems were in the morning putting up the top and windows, the bimini slide broke. Jury rigged an attachment and was comfy all day. coming in at noon, when the winds picked up to give some whitecaps, I caught a sunken crap pot line or something else nasty with the downrigger wire. Lost 50' of wire and the weight. As we were cleaning up the gear, and getting ready to fire up the big motor and stop the trolling to run in, the fog socked us in. The Garmin chartplotter guided us safely to the Jaws of the harbor breakwater. Vis was now about a 1/2 mile, so we came in and got ready for the Saturday party. As to the party, it has become so famous that 2 TV stations we covering the Friday night event. A trailered BBQ, that takes 80# of charcoal and is known as the "Critter Cooker". A lot of the people also hunt, so we feasted on Venison chops, venison sausage, elk, buffalo, smoked goose, tri-tip, albacore, calamari, abalone chowder, fresh strawberries, tortillas, tempura asparagus, apple fritters, chocolate cake, and other unknown critters. |
