A lot of different hp engines use the same block and displacement.
Differences are in the porting, carbs, exhaust, ignition.

Maybe compression?

Yamaha used to make a 150, 175, and 200 HP 2-stroke.... all with the
same displacement....

And those Suzuki 140's that you have, Gene, weigh 6-7 pounds *more* than the
115's.

Yep, and they weigh about 16 lbs. *each* less than the Yamahas that
they replaced.... and I don't really know if that accounts for the 5-6
gals of Yamalube, tanks, hoses, and pumps that I was able to
remove....


Yamaha's current 200, 225, and 250 4-strokes all have the same displacement.

There is a reason for all this.

Many outboard platforms come in 2 or even 3 different HP ratings.

I think it is mostly to do with the compression ratio, carburetor size, port
size and port timing (with 2 strokes).

This way they can have a 9.9hp and a 15 hp to fit different boat max HP
ratings with having to make so many different platforms.

If you read the weight and displacement there are tons of outboard
motors/platforms that are at least 2 different HP ratings.

Nissan/Tahotsu has a 4, 5 and 6 hp outboard that is all the same motor. Same
weight and same displacement.

This save a lot of money.
