![]() wrote in message oups.com... I have lurked on this newsgroup for quite a while and I am about to get my first boat, a Swee****er 20 foot pontoon. I ordered it and will take delivery in about a week or so. My family and I are extremely excited! I have some questions about insurance though. How much insurance should I carry on a new boat like this? How much do you guys pay annually for your insurance and who is it with? I just got a quote back from BoatUS and it was $1000.00 per year! That seems extremely high to me. A Progressive Direct came back at $100 per year. That seems a bit low. By the way, I have taken the USCGA/USPS boating safety course so that should save me a little. Thanks for your help! -Trent The Progressive quote does sound fishy. I have a very basic 14' yacht that I insure for $124.00 per year. The policy has every bell and whistle imaginable (full replacement, liability, towing for boat in water AND trailer, in case of breakdown, beer and psych counseling if a fishing trip is interrupted because of theft or accident). I'd shop around more. Try a normal insurance agent. Mine put me with OneBeacon - perhaps their web site can direct you to an agent. |
