Default Air cooled outboards, oiling SNAFU

Two times I have locked up my 5 horsepower Clinton aircooled
pony motor. Lucky for me, it could run again after cooling, but
it is probably damaged some now.

PROBLEM,
I ran the motor using my 40:1 oil mix in the main tank for the
Evinrude 70. (I run my Evinrude at 40:1, not the 50:1 they call for).

DIAGNOSIS,
This is an air cooled motor, and runs far hotter than a water cooled
outboard. 2 cycle oil for water cooled is designed to be able to
dissapate and burn off the excess at a far lower temperature found
in water cooled motors. the oil formulated for water cooled motors
is not anywhere near correct for use in air cooled motors!!

PROBLEM SOLVED,
First I richened the carb mixture for high speed. (More fuel, more oil,
lower combustion temperature) Next, I bought 2 cycle oil formulated
for air cooled lawn mower type equipment that runs very high combustion
chamber temperatures. Finally, I am using a 16:1 ratio, and yes it smokes
now, and the plug is blacker, but it runs all day with no signs of
attempted suicide, and that makes me and the Clinton much happier.

You may want to try this with your ESKA/SEARS/CLINTON/GAMEFISHER/ Etc.

Anyone with similar experience? Anyone with a melted down air cooled??
