Boat in for service but went fishing anyway Sunday

My center-console fishing boat is still in for service (had some
fiberglass/warranty issues concerning how the seats were mounted).

My neighbor's kid had his 15th birthday Sunday so my son and I (also 15)
took the kid and his father down to Sargent Island near Bay City Texas
on the coast to celebrate it.

There is a new cut carved out by that hurricane last year (Claudette?) if you
turn left after the Intercoastal Waterway drawbridge. It is down about seven
miles or so.

At first we fished the old cut on an incoming tide to about noon (from
sun-up). No luck.

Then we went to the new cut and BINGO! We should have went there
right from the beginning.

We were fishing fresh dead (live shrimp wasn't available and when it is
it is scarce and coming up from Corpus Christi) and frozen finger mullet.

Our party caught two 40" plus black drum (catch & release) plus a mixed
bag of Flounder, Sand Trout, Whiting, Sheephead, Croaker and one undersized
Red. Plus a mess of Blue Crab.

All in all it was a helluva lot of fun and the boys enjoyed it. We are
already planning a camp out at this new cut along with a couple of cooler
/bait jail & pump setups along with some live shrimp. This is going to
be one prime intercept spot. As the cuts go from the Gulf of Mexico to
the Intercoastal Waterway.

I have been eating fresh fish for the last two days, lol. Just had Flounder
for breakfast with a little toast. mmmmmm
