Fish kills in Virginia
Virginia has acknowledged and investigated a fish kill in the South
Fork of the Shenandoah River this spring, 2005. Last spring, 2004, the state investigated a fish kill in the North Fork. Today, May 14, 2005, I kayaked a short stretch of the North Fork upstream of Edinburg, VA. While paddling, I talked to several people fishing the river, all had noticed the presence of many dead fish. Taking a short break on a limestone outcrop, I noticed a pair of very diseased fish swimming slowly near my kayak. I was able to photograph the fish, and the exact spot where I landed my kayak.
