Genoa Jib sheets
 

Needing to add jib sheets to a 33 foot on deck 11'6 beam ketch.

Is there a rule of thumb or formula as to what length they should be. Will
use 1/2 line.

Long enough to reach from the winch (with a wrap or 2) to the jib clew with
the jib blowing fully forward.

That is what I said, most recently two years ago. No-one
contradicted me. We must be right!

So, I am no longer unanimous in this?

The length of the boat + 10' or if you prefer a single line then simply
go twice the length of the boat plus 10 or so feet. Reason for slightly
longer lines than some recommend is that the sheets sometimes must be
used for other things in emergencies and such. The rule of thumb given
allows for about as long as is useable without becoming troublesome. You
will also be chasing 'lost' lines lessoften and re-reeving them.
