How Much Oomph From a 9.9 Alternator?
Hi,
Looking at used 4-stroke 9.9's and wondering if the "electric" option is worthwhile. I'd love to recharge my trolling-motor battery with the outboard, but I'm wondering just how much current these small ones put out? 20A? Anybody know? Lloyd Sumpter "The Tin Boat" Mirrocraft 12 |
How Much Oomph From a 9.9 Alternator?
I think my yamaha T-8 has a 10a circuit. I know it is enough to charge up a
low starting battery after a couple of hours running to fire up the big motor. Bill "Lloyd Sumpter" wrote in message ... My 50 Hp Mercury four strokes are only rated at 18 amps output, so I doubt the 9.9 would be any more than that! Any specific brand you are interested in? The website for Mercury doesn't list the alternator output for the 9.9, but they list the 15hp as having 6 amps for a manual start or 10 amps for electric start. I wouldn't count on getting any useful charge out of your outboard, at least with respect to your trolling motor. It will run the electronics you might have and recharge its own starting battery but that's about it. Rod |

As for brand: it will be used, so I'm kinda tied to whatever's available, but I'm favouring Merc and Yamaha. (My impression is that older Hondas were heavier) Lloyd Sumpter "The Tin Boat" Mirrocraft 12 |
