1986 - 50 HP Mercury Engine Trouble
My 86 Tracker engine has two top speeds. The engine starts ok, idles fine
and is reliable. However, sometimes (most of the time) it has two high-end top speeds. When it is “normal” it turns about 60k rpms. The lower rpm is about 45-48. Sometimes it kicks in when hitting a wake. Other times it stays at the slower speed. It was just tuned up and the top coil stator under the flywheel was replaced. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is and how it may be repaired? Thanks. |
WOW, 60,000 rpm. That baby really cranks!

Yes it doubles as a nuclear missle! I messed up so that we have that fixed
any idea what the issue may be with the boat? Thanks. |
My guess is a loose electrical connection. Make sure all battery
connections and electrical connections on the power pack are clean and tight. -- Tony my boats and cars at http://t.thomas.home.mchsi.com "Mark the shade tree guy" wrote in message lkaboutboats.com... I would check all your electrical and replace the plugs to try and
illiminate the problem. It sould like you are dropping a cylinder. I have rebuilt a couple of old 56' Johnson's with simular problems one had a bad coil the other had a bad stator. Good Luck Ted |

Check for spark by putting the plug wire in your mouth, and turn over the engine. Did I tell you I have a long driveway? |
