For NOYB...

Sorry, don't know where I stored your email address.

Forgot to tell you that I picked up a Penn Slammer 460 on eBay for under
$100, including shipping. I really wanted a 360, because it weighs about
8 ounces less...but none were available, and the 460 seemed a bargain -
at least $25 less than the big Bass Pro Shops supercenter in these here
parts.

I've got a Star "Kingfish Special" spinning rod I might mate it to,
though that one's a bit heavy.

I think I'll bring the new setup and one of my Calcutta rigs down to Bal
Harbour the end of next week. I know I won't have time for any offshore
trips, but I might sneak in two half-day near shore "adventures," or
even some peacock bass fishing in the Miami canals. No need for heavy gear.

That's a helluva deal. Let me know how you like it...and let me know how
you do in Miami. The Slammer 460 or the 560 will likely be my next reels.

I bought a *new* Penn Formula 10KG 2-speed lever drag (holds 800 yards of
20lb. class) on ebay a couple of weeks ago for $202 (Boater's World has 'em
for $299). I already had the same reel on a Star Deluxe 30/60 5'9" standup
rod and ordered a second rod to match. I have 200 yards of Ande 40 lb.
mono backing, and 300 yards of 65 lb. Powerpro. I'm waiting for the kingfish
run next month...and the tarpon run a few weeks later.

I've done *very* well on ebay so far:

JRC FF50 fishfinder for $700 (retail: $1499)
Raymarine Raychart 430 for $500 (retail almost $900)
Penn Formula 10kg for $202 (retail of $349)
Okuma Epixor EB30 for $50 (retail around $80)
Shimano Stradic 5000FG for $75 (retail around $125)

All of it except the Raychart were brand new. I just wonder if any were
stolen?!? All buyers seemed very legitimate, however.

The buyer is RWT. It is the sellers you need to worry about.

I've bought about 15 things on eBay over the years, and haven't been
screwed once by a seller, but you really have to know what you are
buying and how much it really sells for. The best price on the Internet
I saw for the Slammer 460 was around $125.

That's pretty heavy stuff for kingfish. I always used nothing more than
20# test for kings, with a 50# fluro leader. I have a 5'9" Star
standup, too, but I think it is rated lighter than yours. I use it with
a Shimano Charter Special with the lever drag. Got rid of all my heavier
stuff. These days, I use Calcutta 251s or Penn 4300-5500SS spinning reels.

Whoops. Of course, you're right. I mistyped.

Agreed. But I wanted reels matched with line that will serve
multi-purposes. I drag big Mann's Stretch 30's for Grouper, and the braided
line gets a 30' plug down to about 40' due to the narrower diameter of the
braided line. 65' powerpro has the diameter of about 12-15 lb. mono. The
braid works very well for bottom fishing and trolling, and is great for
tarpon and shark too.

My free-lined-bait setup is a Penn 7500SS with 30lb. Momoi Diamond mono.

Did you know that the owner of Henry's tackle has acquired Penn Reels and
Star rods?
