Yes, good point, but there are Racor fuel filters that are marine-rated and
with see-through bowls+metal shields... am researching some sites if
USCG-approved...

YES BUT they have a METAL bowl... not a plastic bowl.

Racor makes filters for gas motors also.

GASOLINE.... NOT DIESEL... The Sierra should work fine. BTW... the
racor filters are NOT USCG approved for gas engines... No filters with
plastic or glass viewing bowls are. If they were diesel, then sure...
spend the money but not for gas....

Under $50 ??

You're joking, right? For a Volvo?

You may be able to find something on Ebay. I highly recommend Racor
filter-seperators, especially a twin mount so that you can switch to a
clean filter without shutting down. I'd also recommend the 50gph size

or

smaller, you don't need a 900 for a 4 cyl 130 hp.

The Feb '04 issue of Trailer Boats Magazine tested a number of popular
spin-on fuel filters. The Tempo unit came out as the "best buy" considering
price, 12 micron filtration, and water separating properties.

Racor makes water separating filters with and without bowls. The ones
with bowls can be either metal or clear "plastic". All are marine
rated. For use within an engine compartment, you need to use a
bowl-less or metal bowl model. For an exterior installation (e.g. for
an outboard), the clear bowls are approved - as, of course, are all the
others.
