Boat Fuel Filter

I have a Sea Ray 220 BR with a 6.2 MPI Bravo three. There is this medium
sized (about a 2" diameter) in-line fuel filter before the main water
separator/filter. Merc wants $47 for this thing!!! I have tried to cross
reference the numbers (it is a Racor filter with a Racor number) but it must
be proprietary for Merc so I have had no luck.

I don't suspect that there is anything special about this filter but does
anyone know for sure. $47 for a $5 filter is robbery and I think any in
line will work if it has the capacity. Any opinions?

Thanks

Call Racor. I had a buzzer go out and Mercruiser wanted about $57 for it. The
name of the company and part number were on the buzzer, so I found a phone
number and called the manufacturer. The nice lady sent me the part in about
three days for around $19.

What is the micron size of the main water seperator filter? If it is like
10 ucron then then inline filter is probably a gross filter in 30 or more
ucron. Go to an autostore and get something comparable as long as its
unbreakable.

I bought one of these for my daughters birthday a few years back.
Really nice boats.
