Will someone please refresh my memory on the correct way to tighten wheel
bearings? Thanks

Actually, you don't tighten the bearing per se, you tighten the axle
nut. I tighten it up lightly with a pair of pliers giving it a spin
and a shake till the nut is solidly bottomed out ( do not apply a lot
of pressure,) then back it up to the next notch back for the cotter
pin to give it some room for heat expansion. Always worked well for
me.

I think we are playing a little bit of "semantics" here, but
tightening the axle nut actually "tightens" the bearings ... or


I meant to say tighten up lightly giving the WHEEL a spin and axial
shake ( not the nut,) until the nut is firmly bottomed out.
Yeh, it is semantics as to if you are tightening the bearing or the
axle nut, but it's the axle nut you adjust.
