salt water use

Hello.

What would a week in salt water do to the bottome of a new fiberglass boat.
Mine is treated with paint and came from a marine owner. My friend's is
brand new, only fresh water usage with no protection.

Thanks,

Greg

After two weeks of vacation in salt water, traveling every day, on plane,
for a couple hours then anchoring until leaving the next day, I had a
perceptable amount of growth on the bottom. It washed off easily though,
with no after effects.
Pacific Northwest area.

It won't hurt it a bit. But wash the boat thoroughly after putting it
back on the trailer. If your trailer is the painted type, DO NOT immerse
the frame in the water. It will rust it out an a a few years.. Back down
only until the axels are about 1 inch above the water and launch from there.

Really depends on where you are. If tied up in brackish or backwaters, a
few days and you'll get growth, a week and you'll need scraping. Give it a
few weeks and you'll be able to harvest something. If in open waters, a
week's fine.

Depends on how warm the water is. In Tampa Bay, in the summer, one
week in salt water will start barnacles. But in the winter, you can
go for 2-3 weeks with only some algae growth.
