Default overpowering by 10hp

I have a 1973 15'-9" Thunderbird tri-hull that was powered by a faithful
old Mercury 850 until last year when it seized up solid. I had put rings in
the old girl four years ago giving her a short lease on life but alas her
time has come and gone. I checked on a newer model Mercury four stroke 90 HP
that is at the boats rated horsepower but at over $6000 for a factory Demo
from iboats.com the cost was prohibitive for such an old boat.

A friend has a 1985 100 HP Johnson that he has given me a screaming deal on
but I'm struggling with the 10 HP difference between the rated hp for my
boat and this new motor. For one I have always had liability insurance on my
boat but State Farm won't touch it with the overpowering of the new motor
although they have told me that there are companies out there that will take
my money.

I haven't put this motor on yet but plan too soon, any advice would help

Mick
