I know this is off topic for this newsgroup so I apologize in advance.
Has anyone rode in, fished in, owned a Polar boat? Looked at the
2100CC - haven't trialed one yet.

None of the 'Righteous Right' apologizes for their juvenile behavior...why
should you?

I've done both 21's *Bay Boat and CC) on demo rides at Cape Ann Marina
when Polar boats were first introduced. I've stated this here in this
group before - at the time I looked at them and wrung them out in a
sea trial, I was mightily impressed. Everything seemed very well
thought out in terms of fishing and the cockpit layout was damn near
perfect. The fit and function of everything in the boats were nice
also.

The bay boat I took for a spin was fighting lady yellow (which I think
is the ugliest color a boat can have - I take that back - it's second
to sea foam (monkey vomit green). The ride was great for a bay boat,
but a little underpowered at 150 horses which is the max rated hp for
this boat. It had a Yamaha 150 four stroke which I felt struggled
with rapid course changes although it seemed to handle ok during
straight runs. And to be fair, I'm used to higher power 2 stroke
engines, so that may have been a factor.

The CC was great - then again, I prefer CC over cuddy or cabin type
boats. The boat rode great, came up on plane easily and was perfectly
powered with a 225 Merc Optimax which at the time was an option with
Polars. This was a blast to drive and it handled quite well in the
tidal run up the Anisquam River. Very responsive. The ride was crisp
and dry and as I said above, the boat seemed to be very well thought
out.

As I said, this was a couple of years ago so my impressions were based
on that time frame. Now, it seems like you can't find a dealer on the
East Coast who doesn't sell Polar boats. I've climbed over some of
the newer ones at boat shows and they seem to be the same boats I test
drove. They now come factory rigged with Yamahas which I think are ok
if you stick with the HPDI two strokes.

I have talked to one or two owners about their Polars (23s) and no
complaints even with the Yamaha four strokes. One trailered their 23
and said it was a very easy boat to launch and recover. The trailer
was a roller trailer and not a bunk trailer. I would think the bunk
wouldn't be as easy.

Polar is a division of Godfrey Marine which is a quality boat
manufacturer.

Hope that helped.

Later,

Tom

Not unless Tuuk takes a shine to one of his comrades. I'm sure all this is
great entertainment to him.

Sorry, I'm not a fan of Polar boats, though I haven't looked at new ones
for some years. When I did look, it was at their knockoffs of Carolina
Skiffs, and I thought the Polars were, in comparison, bottom of the
barrel. Maybe they've improved over the years.

Are we talking about the same boats? It's my understanding that
they've only been making these boats for four - maybe five years. At
the time I looked at them, they only made a 19, 21 and 23 CC plus the
20 bay boat.

As to being Carolina Skiff knockoffs, I know Carolina Skiffs - these
aren't Carolina Skiffs. :)

I believe the company has or had a line of flat-bottomed skiffs similar
to Carolina Skiffs. Single hull, rolled edges, spatter-paint finish
interior. Anyway, this was some years ago, early 90s. Things may have
changed.

I talked to the Marketing Manager for Godfrey at the Norwalk In-water
Boat Show a couple of years ago - she said these were new designs.

I dunno.

Nah, not a chance. They're kindred spirits.

I was on the hull design team. Darn good hulls.
