Maybe somebody here can answer this.

What is the difference, beyond location that is, between the Great
Lakes OUPV/Masters vs the Salt OUPV/Masters?

More to the point, can a person holding a Salt Near Shore Masters
rating translate that experience to a Great Lakes Masters license?

My understanding is, "no." Since it is a "rating" it would require 90
days on the Great Lakes (to add it to an existing "Near Coastal"...
although the other time(s) should be counted toward the total 360
days.

Hmmm - interesting. I wonder why. You have to know the inland rules
for rivers/lakes, navigation is the same - it's just a question of
experience which, I would think anyway, would be just as valid from
the Ocean Bouy's inland as they would be from inland port to the Ocean
Bouy. If you have a Masters Near Shore, for example, I don't
understand why you can't get an inland endorsement or vice versa
actually. Do "salties" have to change captains when they pass the
Ocean Bouy to travel down the St. Lawrence?

I hold both licenses. One is for the Great Lakes, the other covers all
other salt water.
