The purpose of the Selective Service System is to make plans for an eventuality
where a draft may be needed. Many liberals find out that planning is occurring
and start their 'Chicken Little' routine.

Laughable. I guess they'd rather have the Selective Service folks just sit

The job of the Selective Service is to plan. The fact that it does so should not
cause a lot of panic.

While George himself rushed out to denounce the rumors of a draft,
Rolling Stone magazine recently unearthed an internal Selective
Service memo that reveals the lie.

Is it just me, or do you feel a draft?

In last year's presidential run, young voters were wary that Bush &
Co. was quietly preparing for a military draft. The concern was
spreading so quickly that George himself was rushed out to denounce
what he called "rumors on the internets," and he flatly declared:
"We're not going to have a draft - period." Donnie Rumsfeld went even
farther, offering this absolute statement: "The idea of reinstating
the draft has never been debated, endorsed, discussed, theorized,
pondered, or even whispered by anyone in the Bush administration."

The problem for political liars is that they don't know when to stop.
They keep piling it on until the lie becomes too extreme and too big
to be true. Rumsfeld's denial, for example, was incredible when he
issued it, and now we learn that it was patently untrue - i.e., a
bold-faced lie issued for political purposes.

Rolling Stone magazine recently unearthed an internal Selective
Service memo that reveals the lie. It details a meeting with two of
Rummie's top aides early in 2003, specifically to debate, discuss,
ponder, and otherwise consider reinstating the draft. Indeed, the head
of the Selective Service later testified before Congress that,
following "consultations with senior Defense manpower officials," the
agency began preparing a plan to draft Americans who have special
skills that the military needs, such as nurses and doctors.

But conscripting people with medical skills is just a start. A
Selective Service official confides that "with some very slight
tinkering, we could change that skill to plumbers or linguists or
electrical engineers or whatever the military was short."

Military troop levels are already stretched to the breaking point, and
now George W. is beating the war drums to move on to Iran, Syria and
maybe North Korea. In other words, forget the official lies - Uncle
Sam Wants You!

Careful, Harry. You're at risk of siding up with a very conservative
crowd on an issue. There are lot of repubs, neocons, whatever you want
to call them that are ****ed a "W" over the issue of illegal
immigration.

I heard in an radio interview this morning that the Border Patrol has
caught something like 80,000 people illegally crossing from Mexico just
since the beginning of the fiscal year (IIRC the federal fiscal year
starts in October). They acknowledge that over 600 of these people
caught had links to know terror groups.

The BP admits that they get 1 in 4 at best.

Something like 20% of the people coming across the border are "OTMs"
(other than Mexican). There are a surprising number of people from
other continents sneaking in via Mexico. And most of the OTMs are
released if the BP can't find any criminal history on them.

Conservatives are going to have to face up to the fact that President
Bush is failing miserably on border security. And it isn't because he
is inept - he knows what is happening and chooses to do pretty much
nothing.

You're right NOYB, I am a civilian contractor. I hit the ground in Baghdad 4
hours after the photo op on the carrier deck. We had to wait for clearance
to enter Baghdad airspace so as not to get shot down by the Patriot
batteries at the airport.
As a contractor, if I want to keep my job, I go where I'm told, and I (and
the rest of the world) was told by our highest authority that the war was
over.
I've had the job a lot longer that we've been in Iraq, so no, I'm not one of
the guys and girls that signed on for Iraq. I don't have anything against
the people that did, most signed on and went over because there are no jobs
at home.
I was actually paid less while in Iraq than I get paid in places that are a
lot safer than most US cities.
I didn't go for the money, I went because it was my job.
Thanks for the concern Harry, I'm doing pretty well.
Did you hear the Border Patrol has been cut $100,000,000 over the last 2
years? That came out on Lou Dobbs's program.
I just love the "patriots" on these sites: Stick a yellow sticker on your

Immigrants entering into the U.S. is actually good for the country.

With all the krauses in the country, the fat lazy union slobs who have
forced businesses out of business and have forced jobs oversees. By allowing
these immigrant workers to come in will at least keep jobs in the U.S.
because they are not the lazy fat union slobs like krause is who instantly
bites the hand that feeds them, just before they destroy the business and
send it over to a more cooperative workforce.

Get the liberals to quit bad-mouthing the country and the military. That would

Since 9/11 the percent of black recruits has gone from about 23% to about 14%. I
think much of that is due to bad-mouthing.

He can go a long way with enlistment bonuses before the draft becomes cost

If the Army was in a real crunch, the enlistment bonus program would have

"W" doesn't want it. Pelosi and Reid want it.

More important -- the military wants and needs more people. How do you
propose they get them?

Get the liberals to quit bad-mouthing the country and the military. That would
be a good start.

Since 9/11 the percent of black recruits has gone from about 23% to about 14%. I
think much of that is due to bad-mouthing.

"All decisions are the result of binary thinking."

And the treatment of returning vets has nothing to due with the drop in
inlistments, not the daily news of the killed and wounded in IRaq?

From today's Washington Post:

"While it is hard to pinpoint why the drop-off has [in black enlistments]
occurred, the figures reflect particular soft spots in the Army's effort to
recruit and retain a growing all-volunteer force that has repeatedly deployed
soldiers into battle since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Though the Army has
met its recruiting goals in all but one year since 1990, it is falling far
behind this year.

African Americans still make up nearly a quarter of the overall Army, where,
historically, blacks enlisted in strong numbers to take advantage of economic
and social opportunities not available elsewhere.

But the drop in new recruits from that ethnic demographic means the Army has to
make up ground elsewhere. Hispanics have increased from 10.4 percent of new
recruits in 2000 to 13 percent in 2004; whites went from 61 percent in 2000 to
65 percent in 2004; and Asians or Pacific Islanders made up less than 1 percent
of new soldiers in 2000 but nearly 5 percent in 2004."

So, it would seem that those most apt to believe the anti-US and anti-military
rhetoric spewed by Jesse, Al, Harry, Nancy, et al., are the ones whose numbers
are going down the most.

I don't think it's fear, do you?

The army's recruiting goals are almost 15% higher than last year....(up to
80k) and with the economy expanding, and unemployment dropping, the
recruiting gets harder.

Of course. A draft would put the sons of neocons in uniform and over in
Iraq stopping bullets and bombs for Bush. That would end Bush's
Misadventure in a hurry.

I have six cousins by one aunt and uncle. Two of them are female and the
other four are male.

Of the male's:
A is a Major in the USMC flying F/A-18's.
B is a Major in the USA Infantry.
D is attending college and is in the USMC PLC program, hoping to fly jets.
F is at the Naval Academy, looking to go Marine option and fly jets.

Of the female's:
C got a medical discharge from USMC OCS due to knee problems, however, she
married a former Marine pilot.
E is attending college on a soccer scholarship. She can attend USMC OCS when
she graduates.

Oh, their father, my uncle, is a retired USMC Col. that flew jets.

Universal draft. No Exemptions

My other first cosins are are f-in civillians.
