But, if you like classical and serious vocal music, you might want to tune into www.vivalavoce.com with your browser. Great vocal music 24/7, programmed by WGMS-FM, the leading commercial classical music station in the USA. Decent sound, even out of crapola computer speakers. Great for the marina. Seriously, How many times can one hear Verdi's La Traviata (regardless who sings) without putting a gun to your head and pulling the trigger? :) Later, Tom |

You think the station has a short play list? Probably in terms of what they play - not in terms of who actually performs. There certainly are nuances to the way one individual performs a piece of music vs another, but there are only so many variations on a theme. Consider that the only true piece of unique classical music was Wagner's Ring Cycle and that was so incredibly depressing in scope and sound that is hardly worth the bother except for the pseudo intellectual babble that normally surrounds the individual set pieces. And to tell the truth, one piece by Vivaldi sounds like any other written by him. Give me Manhattan Transfer any day. :) Later, Tom |

Of course there were. Manhattan Transfer? Yes - a different sort of opera. Sheesh. Back at 'cha... Later, Tom |

It shouldn't really be necessary unless their delivery partner, Limelight Networks, is up to some spyware mischief. |
Reminds me of my vacation in Mexico, circa 1990. All I heard down there
was 'Macarina' or whatever the hell it's called. Over and over and over...... The only thing I didn't like about CCR was that all their songs sounded the same. They were all different, but they all sounded the same. You can say the same for a bunch of bands. When a particular band's signature "sound" is pleasing, then it's sure bet that you'll like most of their songs. The converse is also true. My favorite boating songs: When navigating a crowded waterway or zig-zagging through crab pots: Run Through the Jungle - CCR. When Tubing: Tunnel of Love - Dire Straits. When cruising a long and narrow river or canal: Green River - CCR. When cruising through a primarily sailboat marina: Born on the Bayou - CCR. Cruising flat out: Down To the Waterline - Dire Straits. Waiting out a sudden summer thunderstorm: Who'll Stop the Rain - CCR Thunder and Lightning - Phil Collins Anchoring out at the local river: Down By The River - Neil Young After filling up the gas tank: Back in Black - AC-DC. When the day is over: I Wanna Be Sedated - Ramones Dave |

I could never get the hang of the mandolin. I could "play", but I couldn't play if that makes any sense to you. Just couldn't get the stroke and fingering down evenly. I'd have periods of competence and periods of total incompetence, but it never sounded "right". Ever seen Bruce Molsky? I have never seen him, but I have the "Fiddlers 4" CD with Doucet, Eggleston and Anger. That's a great CD. I have seen on of his mentors, Tommy Jarrell way long time ago. However, any idiot can play drums. :) That's true, but not just any idiot can play them well. LOL!!! Damn straight. :) Later, Tom |

I got the impression that he's pretty much devoted his life to this music and the result shows. IIRC he mentioned a number of names including Tommy Jarrell. I also thought he was very witty & funny although it wasn't the sort of venue for uproarious laughter. I was only allowed to buy one CD at intermission and picked "Contented Must Be" which we love. "Fiddlers 4" is on my list. DSK |
