OT--Europe, Thy Name is Cowardice

EUROPE - THY NAME IS COWARDICE (Commentary by Mathias Dapfner CEO, Axel Springer, AG) A few days ago Henry Broder wrote in Welt am Sonntag, "Europe - your family name is appeasement." It's a phrase you can't get out of your head because it's so terribly true. (lots snipped) These days, Europe reminds me of an old woman who, with shaking hands, frantically hides her last pieces of jewelry when she notices a robber breaking into a neighbor's house. As usual, you don't have a clue... totally barking up the wrong tree. The fact that European countries are not invading Arab nations on false pretenses doesn't mean they are not fighting terrorism effectively http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4207295.stm http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/europe...den.terror.ap/ http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/4223471.stm http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstrac...0894DD4044 82 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/2690629.stm http://www.cbc.ca/story/news/?/news/...9/europe010919 http://english.people.com.cn/english...701_73924.html http://www.ict.org.il/spotlight/det.cfm?id=678 |

They've been little more than defensive and reactive in nature. Like I once challenged you to provide, and you failed to, Europeans have done little to fight the problem at the source, believing naively, that they can fight terrorism by simply capturing them as they try to carry out their plans. The problem is that they may capture 99% of the terrorists, but it only takes 1 with a nuke to succeed, and well...... Appeasement and ignorantly hiding their heads in the sand thinking that terrorism is a "manageable" fad that will go away on its own if we hold strong, is a very poor course of action in this case. Like the "treaties" with Hitler in the 1930's gave a false sense of security, strictly defensive policies with regard to terrorism is equally unwise. Dave |

Not if you don't invade Arab countries on transparent pretexts and inspire tens of thousands of young Muslims to hate & despise America. The hate was already there. We've only lifted the veil which had been covering it. Young Muslims had been taught to "hate" western culture long before the first American bomb hit the mid-east. They view us a "the devils", and they have the job to rid the world of us. You can't rationalize this in-bread intrinsic religiously inspired motivation with simple political gaffes. That's "inbred", Einstein. Back to the facts: The hate was already there. Do you think our behavior over the past 24 months has given Arab youth more motivation to want to attack us, or less? This is simple: More, or less. |
