Yes. I'm planning to retire at the end of April and start heading
north with the GB sometime in May. That's going to be our "summer
home" for the foreseeable future.

Let me know if you and Mrs E would enjoy doing part of that trip.
We're trying to get some friends and neighbors to join us along the
way and the more the merrier.

Sounds inviting, but I think we are going to beat you up there this year.
Kingman Yacht Center has promised to launch both boats April 1st (hmmmm)
and Mrs. E is itching to start playing with her's . We bought it at the end
of the season last year and basically took a little ride, had it surveyed
and then winterized and stored it.

Congrats on the upcoming retirement! Join the rest of us that have nothing
to do and no time to do anything. If you happen to make a pit stop at
Kingman, I am in slip 39 and Mrs. E's little GB is in #22. Both are in the
back basin. Stop by.

Obviously, you'll need to buy yet another boat, a neutral boat, as it
were, where you and Mrs. E. can meet on occasion.

Please, Harry. Don't plant any ideas in her head. I think this will work
out fine. 17 boats between us, so I won't be bothered with her "girls night
out" events and my boat will remain .... well .. "mine".

Yes, Bob

There have also been some interesting activities on the sun that has allowed
20m and 40m activity as well as some say 6m (which I haven't the
capability).... The X7 flare unleased a coronal mass ejection. It was also
probable that the CMD was directed earthward. It did hit yesterday and we
are now seeing a planetary K index (Kp) of 8, with a reading from Boulder at
7. But because the Bz is strongly positive ,,,,, it does decrease the full
impact on geomagnetic activity. But the IMF might turn southward, it is
probable, which is already a major or savere geomagnetic storm and will
increase even more in strength....
Of course, the dynamic pressure of this passage is very high, and the speed
is over 950 km/s. And at the same time the proton storm is finally
ending.....

interesting because i tuned the bands last night and they seemed
pretty dead...hope they pick up.

We're due for snow-sleet-ice-snow over the weekend, according to the
local weather forecasts.

Well... we're definitely getting it. Very light mist is freezing to
everything..... on two separate potty breaks, the dog has spun out on
the walk.... once on her stomach... next time, sailing over a
wall..... I believe she's beginning to get it....

I just bought a pair of Icer's. Don't know if they come in doggie size.

Gene,
Have you hit 200 hours on your Suzuki's yet? Did you have to replace the
anodes?

Oh, well, I guess I could find some of those... but I'd really lose
my ability to gauge how slick it was before *I* go out...

See.... Maggie is a Glen of Imaal Terrier, a little over a foot high
at the shoulder, weighing in at 40 pounds and, representative of the
breed, hugely muscular... sort of a small, coarse haired, Abrams Tank.
She waits until her eyeballs are floating and then, *she has REALLY
got to GO.* Leaving four knee-high rooster-tails of shaved ice and
towing the better half across the icy deck, which is about three feet
off of the ground..... Maggie is looking for the express route to
"that special place," but all the wife can see is the rapidly
approaching steps to the ground.... and in her eyes, certain death as
she is dragged over them. It is sort of a short, quick, surrealistic,
Iditarod....

I've sorta learned to gage the relative slickness against the volume,
quantity, and earnestness in the screams of terror....

Gee, I'd hate to give all that up..... :-)

Do those Icer's really work on smooth (black-ice) ice? My wife was
going to get a pair but I'm unconvinced by their ads.

Yes.

You know... I don't know. To maintain the warranty I have taken it
back to the dealer.... they didn't specifically charge me for doing
it, but it might be on the (long) list of things that must be done
and, thus, are covered by the flat rate.

I don't have the service manual with me, right now, so I can't
check....

The reason that I asked is that my local dealer suggested changing the
anodes on my DF250 every 200 hours. He says there are anodes up in the head
that need to be changed (never heard of this???), and it's pretty extensive
work to get 'em off. He's telling me that the 2 hour service (change oil,
water pump impeller, thermostat, anodes, bonding wires, lower gear oil, etc)
is $240 in parts alone...and another 4 hours labor. I also have to pay
transport cost because I don't have a trailer. The bill will be over $600!

I'm at my 100 hour, and I've been quoted $148 to change the engine and lower
gear oil. I'm probably going to do it myself since it'll take about 45
minutes.

Have you ever heard of replacing anodes in the head? They must be part of
the cooling system, but the service manual just calls for an "inspection" of
the anodes at 200 hours...and replacement if they more than 2/3 gone. I
store my boat on a lift and flush the engine every time. I doubt anodes can
go that quickly.

For non-dentists, the bill is only $48.

I was actually wondering that. I made the mistake of calling from my
office. The service manager called me back with the price, and of course my
receptionist answered "Dr. NOYB's office". I figured that the price doubled
once he heard that.
