We had a blizzard on Monday, a Nor'Easter with 20 cm of snow yesterday, and
now we hear that we may get that storm that's brewing stateside.
I should pat myself on the back for buying that snowblower.

You are on your way down here with it, I hope.

We're due for snow-sleet-ice-snow over the weekend, according to the local
weather forecasts.

Heh. You might have to get BOTH of your plows out for this one. :-)

We're supposed to get 6-9 inches here in northern Virginia also. Had
to stock up on meat for stew and chili. Got lots of firewood. Hell,
let it snow!

Good timing. And it looks like pretty cold temperatures you guys are

The Brits sent over their new fleet amphibious flagship 'HMS Albion' for
frigid weather testing. It arrived yesterday for a four day visit and then
planned to travel to Newfoundland and north up along the Labrador coast for
another 6 days.
Cold they wanted...cold they got!

Why didn't they test it in Upper Quebec or Newfoundland? A much shorter
route from the UK with similar temperatures.

JimH,
I think here in Michigan it's called a Westerner. At least that's where
it's coming from.

Just checked the National Weather Service forecast for our area up north.

The marine forecast:

A POWERFUL AND DANGEROUS WINTER STORM WILL DEVELOP SOUTH OF NEW
ENGLAND SATURDAY NIGHT...AND THEN TRACK SOUTHEAST OF NANTUCKET SUNDAY
MORNING. VERY STRONG NORTHEAST WINDS OF 30 TO 40 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 65 MPH
ARE POSSIBLE SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY. THESE STRONG WINDS WILL LIKELY
GENERATE A STORM SURGE OF 2.0 TO 2.5 FT SUNDAY MORNING...ALONG WITH SEAS OF
25 TO 30 FEET ON TOP OF THE SURGE.

The snow forecast:

SNOW WILL TAPER OFF EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS OF 1 TO 2 FEET
ARE EXPECTED OVER A LARGE AREA...WITH THE HIGHEST AMOUNTS ALONG THE
IMMEDIATE EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS COAST...AS WELL AS CAPE COD AND THE ISLANDS.

It's times like this that I really appreciate Florida in the winter.
