Mercruiser 3.0 engine temp.

Any problem here? The book says the 3.0 thermostat is 160 degrees.
Mine right out of the box has always run at 175. What does yours run?
Faulty gauge maybe?
Thanks,
Helmer

I've serviced MercCruiser for many years (too many - I gotta get a new line
of work) and I've seen most 4 cylinders make the temp gauge read exactly
175. I'd say your toy is working perfect.

Mine is about 125-140 when running at 1200-2000 all day. Sometimes goes up
close to 175, then the thermostat opens and it drops down to below 150

I've got an 88 Sea Ray Merc 100 hp outboard. The temp rarely lifts off 60F.
The highest I've seen it is 70F when boating in warmer water. My mechanic
had the thermostat out and tested it in a pail of water and says everything
is fine. Is he leading me astray? Usually a mechanic would tend to inflate
the bill, not the other way around.
