Home boat building

I am an aspiring sailboat owner and I was wondering about wether it
would be possible to build one in my own home and:
What equipment would I need?
How much Time/Money would I need?
Are there plans available or would I have to design it myself?

I am thinking of a monohull boat suitable for weeklong trips.
Thanks in advance.

Wow!... I sail a 28foot sloop in Australian waters, but I must say that the
"weekender" home built jobbie from "Stevenson projects" looks like a ton of
fun to build, and would be a great project on the side just for the hell of
it!
Happy sailing all
Chris.
