I still don't know what happened.

I just downloaded all the recent updates for Win XP Pro. After it
finished, I tried to post to rec.boats via OE and I got an error window
saying something is all screwed up. Tried again, same thing. Tried
using Thunderbird and it works fine.

Seriously thinking of going back to the old telephone .....

Check the account tab under tools, or pickup on the newserver under
accounts - it sounds like the two don't match.

I'll tell you, there are days when that becomes a distinct
possibility.

Did you just download them, or did you "install" them, too, via MS's
auot install facility?

If the latter, you usually have to reboot...

I'm still waiting to hear about those rods you build.

Nothing special - custom made spaciality rods- everything from 5 foot
fly rods to 12 foot trolling rods and lots of repair rods in between.

I do about 30 or so new rods per year - replacement rods, special
rods, my own rods which I have a tendency to give away to kids and
what not.

don't give a s... either.

OE just won't work. No big loss.

What is strange is that I got a notice of some updates .... which, as a
good Windows soldier, I downloaded and installed. Next, Windows
suggested that I should download Service Pack 2 for XP Pro... which I
already did last spring. I said "ok" anyway, figuring it can't hurt,
but......

nooooooooooooooo.......

My faithful computer is now infected with a Windows update.

I'll figure it out sometime when I give a ****.

what not.

I'm been on an endless quest for a 7' two-piece spinning rod I can use
with my Penn Slammer 460, which I have spooled with 14# Fireline. I want
a two-piece rod because I travel some, and I can tuck it in with other
stuff I take with me. I have an 8' rod case that is adjustable for
length, but it is a pain in the butt to bring along for one rod.

The reel is fairly heavy for its capacity.

Problem I have with the rods I've seen is that the two pieces of rod
tend to spin at their connector (is that the ferrule in rod talk?).
Well, spin is too strong...the guides tend not to stay lined up because
of twist.

What should I be looking for?

If you mean that the rod tip twists in the ferrule when you cast, it
could be caused by several things - your reel is to big for the rod,
you are using a heavier line than the guides are designed for or the
top doesn't use a rubber stop.

All those things can be corrected easily by just changing one of the
above items.

If it is a mass production rod, then the problem could be a number of
things - like the top and bottom of the rod not being cut from the
same blank, the guides are not aligned along the spine of the blank on
the two different sections, guide misplacement, wrong type of quide
for the line or the blank itself is defective. Most likely, it's the
second problem - the guides aren't aligned along the spine of the
blank.

Correcting this can be problematic, but in the past, I've advised
people who are anal about the twist (not that you are, but bass
fishing types are extremely anal about everything) to put the rod
together with the reel and line combination and make a series of casts
with the most common weight lure you will use. Once the rod starts to
twist, notice in what direction, then compensate by firmly inserting
the rod tip into the ferrule in that direction. Most of the time it
works, sometimes it doesn't.

A little rubber tip on the end of the top rod section will also help
the situation - just don't make it large enough so that you have to
force the rod tip into the ferrule.

Then there is the just live with rule. :)

As a rule, I don't make two piece rods unless somebody insists on it.
I might make one or two a year at most.
