80 Whales Die on Aussie Island...
Eighty Whales, Dolphins Die on Australian Island
Somebody should check to see if there were naval exercises in the area at the time. Several scientific theories are now exploring the relationship between mega-powerful sonar pulses and beached marine mammals. You don't suppose the whales caught sight of our Ms. Smith, .......... Why not give it a rest? |

Then that theory can't be right- Our submarine is in for repair (a constant state of affairs) and our other warship was probably in Sydney ;-) Peter HK |

Hello Don,
Is it possible the marine creatures were all distraught over Bush's re-election and took matters into their own hands, errrr, fins, errr, flippers.... Franko "Don White" wrote in message ... Some suspect sonar may give whales the bends. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/n...halebends.html http://community.oceana.org/displays.../26/14342/3105 |

Harry, Do ya think that might be a reason to invade them? Could be it was WMD that beached them critters! :-) Paul "Harry Krause" wrote in message ... Eighty Whales, Dolphins Die on Australian Island CANBERRA (Reuters) - At least 80 whales and dolphins have died after beaching themselves on a remote island between the Australian mainland and the country's island state of Tasmania. The number of deaths on King Island could be higher as some bodies might have been washed back out to sea, said Warwick Brennan, a spokesman for Tasmania's Department of Primary Industry, Water and Environment. "What we found at first light this morning...was 80 animals strewn along several hundred meters of beach. All those animals were dead," Brennan said on Monday. "There was a mixture of adults and juvenile animals. So it was a very grim sight," Brennan told Australian radio. He said there were 55 dead long-finned pilot whales and 25 dead bottle-nosed dolphins on King Island beach, around 250 km (160 miles) south of the Victorian state capital Melbourne. A further 17 whales were swimming around 1 km offshore. ---- You don't suppose the whales caught sight of our Ms. Smith, queen of the Hydras? For those unfamiliar, the Hydra, which lived in the swamps near to the ancient city of Lerna in Argolis, was a terrifying monster with the body of a serpent and many heads (the number of heads deviates from five up to one hundred there are many versions but generally nine is accepted as standard), of which one could never be harmed by any weapon, and if any of the other heads were severed another would grow in its place (in some versions two would grow). Also the stench from the Hydra's breath was enough to kill man or beast (in other versions it was a deadly venom). When it emerged from the swamp it would attack herds of cattle and local villagers, devouring them with its numerous heads. It totally terrorized the vicinity for many years. You think Ms. Smith is ugly enough to be a WMD? |

You might find it strange, but it's because I have more respect for you. As an example, I found the way that you took the time to respond to each and every poster who gave their thoughts in your Catty Wampus thread to be classy of you. And it's all the more sad when you then attack someone when not directly provoked. Also, to be fair, many people here attack you out of the blue in threads that are not about you and in which you've made no comments. (Such as the ones that use every opportunity to question the validity of your boat claims in threads where that is totally irrelevent.) I don't say anything about their habits either, most of them don't seem to be worth it. Oh well. None of us are without flaws. And that's a good thing. ~ One of my "flaws" may be that from time to time I feel the need to point out other's flaws. In many ways all this is what makes people and this group interesting. If it were just about boats, as some seem to want, it'd be quite boring. Gary |

She really was special, smarter than any other cat we've encountered. |

Gary Some of us have witnessed Harry's name-calling and personal attacks so often that we don't bother reading his posts anymore. We just assume they're more personal attacks. Thus, the responses to his posts may not fit the thread. Of course, Harry has probably not brought this upon himself, so that would make us 'not worth' your comments.
