Trawler publications

I'm looking for a book that compares all sorts of old and new trawlers,
giving their specifications, histories, recommendations, values, etc. of
these boats so I could educate myself about the vagaries of this craft.
I have back issues of Passagemaker and other similar boating magazines
but search for a book or some other more comprehensive collection. Any
ideas?

I'd be interested in the same information but have my doubts that it
exists in just one book. Are you familiar with the "Trawler World"
mailing list? There is a wealth of information in the archive and
among the list members. You can get some information on valuation
from looking up asking prices on Yacht World. Any yacht broker who is
a member of Yacht World can also look up actual selling prices for
you.

The Trawler World archives are at:

Information on the Trawler World List Server:

Yacht World is at

Check www.boatdiesel.com for comments and questions about the engines
you are considering.

For Grand Banks trawler information see:

For information on the thousand and one Taiwan built trawlers known
generically as CHBs:

There are also a number of trawler groups on Yahoo (search for
trawler):

The best book I have ever read on power boats, and boats in general I might
add, is Dave Pascoe's Mid Size Power Boat book. I just finished it and it is
very good. This is coming from an old time sailor and engineer. A wealth of
knowledge on most manufactures. It is not just trawlers, but is very
interesting. Quite a bit on engines too. I would recommend it to anyone
interested in buying a mid size power boat ( I think he defines it
something like 30 - 50 ')

The book is a little pricey, but well worth it. You can get it on his web
site ( Google his name, maybe add "survey"). Read a few of the articles on
his site first to see if you might like his book.

Good Luck.

Bill
