A quote for our times

Anyone recognize the source:

"The National Government will regard it as its first and foremost duty
to revive in the nation the spirit of unity and cooperation. It will
preserve and defend those basic principles on which our nation has been
built. It regards Christianity as the foundation of our national
morality, and the family as the basis of national life."

Barack Obama, lying to the nation when he delivered his speech to the
Democratic National Convention?

Oh my! Aren't YOU bitter! What's wrong? Worried that the Dems have a guy who
can actually speak and weave together ideas like a big boy? Someone who
might kick the jambs out from under your shack in a few years?

You kow what bothers me about him?

He is more white than black in a purely genetic sense. One of his
parents is white and I believe that his other parent is also partially
white.

So with a smaller genetic portion of him being black, why doesn't he
call himself white?

Or even if he is purely half black and white, why doesn't he call
himself white?

Oh, I wish I hadn't asked that. :)

Later,

Tom

Who cares? About 6 months before the election, I heard someone speaking on
the radio, and it turned out to be him. The guy's brilliant.

I would not worry about him to much.......four years worth of voting record
in the Senate....and he will not be a viable contender for prez....

It is the La. rule.......they used to consider anyone that as little as 1/64

I'm not sure about "brilliant". He is a good speaker and he has a
certain charisma, but let's see what he does as a Senator before we go
to the brilliant claim.

My point is this. He obviously is using his status as a black African
American to help his cause - he is called a black man and I watched
his speak with some interest as he was introduced by the various
talking heads as an "up and coming African American". In truth, he
can label himself as white. I was wondering why he didn't call
himself a white American.

Nothing more than that. In fact, I was very impressed with him
although his speech wasn't as great as everybody seem to think it was
- there was a lot of ambiguity and touchy feely "good" think in it.

But, I'm willing to keep an open mind on him - he seems like a good
candidate for a more prominent role in national politics.

Later,

Tom

Well, there are plenty of possibilities, among them:

1. He doesn't look Caucasian.
2. He understands that historically in this country and in "white
Africa," "mixed" folks were discriminated against, as either being
"black" or "something else," and wants to remember those who got the
short end of the stick because of their skin color.
3. He isn't interested in his "racial" genetics.

If that was true, then he would just call himself a male human being
if it wasn't all that important to him.

4. His success as a "black man" really ****es off those whiteys who are
overtly or covertly racist. There's little as satisfying as "in your
face" success. I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that most of the buttwipes
in my newsgroup dumpster filter *can't stand* the fact that Obama, a
black man, is a resounding success despite his background and because of
his achievements.

How's them apples?

Like I said - I don't care - it was just a curiosity question based on
his background.

I have nothing against him in any case. In short, doesn't matter to
me.

Tom

He was also raised in a rural town in Kansas from age 2. Maybe he's related
to Skipper?

You can't get any mileage from being a white American in the Democratic
Party...and you certainly can't play the race card in a tight election.
Maybe he's saving that as his trump card?

Well...keep in mind that like many New Yorkers, I'm still recovering from
Alphonse D'Amato. :-)
