Are they planning an invasion?

Just trying to keep George W under control. Wonder if it would work on a
few of the more belligerent posters in this newsgroup.

Canaduh. Indeed.

Had to laugh.... I was watching a story on all the young Americans who
come over to Windsor Ontario to gamble at the casinos and drink because of a
younger age limit (19 vs 21) . Most of the kids were well behaved
although enjoying themselves. Then some yahoo jumps in front of the camera
.... yells that he's from Ohio, and drops his pants to moon the camera. I
wondered if he was related to you.

Gotta giggle at all these US righties who are always so disturbed about
Canada. Deep down inside, I think they are concerned that a country
adjacent to ours is populated with people who seem to get along with
others in the world, who enjoy the same freedoms we do, and who have a
far less repressive government.

They dread the day when the majority of Americans will demand the same.

Louisiana, however, is one of my very favorite states -it's got great
geography, great fishing, great history, lots of wonderfully strange
people and politics, some good universities, New Orleans, my
second-favorite US city, and a large Catholic population, which means
that at least in some areas, it is socially progressive. And, of course,

Ah, yes...good Maritime Provincers.

You know, I do take a bit of perverse pleasure at the absolute hatred so
many righties have for Canada, because it makes them appear as utterly
stupid, provincial and xenophobic as they really are. There could be no
better neighbor for a country than Canada, and it seems to have avoided
or at least worked through many of the problems tearing apart and
destroying the once-great United States. Maybe you guys will be around
to pick up the pieces after our collapse or destruction. I hope the
radiation doesn't drift north.

Thanks Harry... The US right wing does have allies up
here....especially in some of the western provinces.
Their fear mongering is mostly about the economy and trade with the US if we
don't dance to a certain tune. So far we've kept them in check.

Cleveland used to have a first-rate symphony orchestra, but no longer,
and it does have a top university, or did, at least (Case-Western
Reserve). Ohio, generally, is one of the least attractive of US states,
geographically, geologically, intellectually, and, of course,
politically. It and Indiana are two places I don't mind driving through,
but I sure wouldn't want to live in either. But there are three states I
wouldn't even drive through...Alabama, Mississippi, and Texas.

Get off the interstates. Ohio, especially the southeast part, is
absolutely great motorcycle country.

Actually, all of the Candians that I've met are wonderful people (except for
a patient who was an asshole retired physician).

A group of us went to Daytona for spring break one year and hung out with
several guys from Windsor. They were some crazy folks. One guy would
remove the safety screen from an oscillating fan, and then plunge his face
into the speeding blades to stop it. His buddy suggested he tried the same
thing with the ceiling fan, so he bossted him up, and then....BAM! Blood
scattered everywhere as it shattered his nose. He came down complaining not
about his broken nose, but of the dust from the fan that got into his mouth.

Those same guys drove down to visit us at Purdue, and got us kicked out of a
half dozen bars before it was 8:30p.

My beef with the Canadians is that they've let the nutty liberals take over
their government. However, your new leader, Martin, seems like a somewhat
reasonable fellow...as evidenced by his decision to remove that crazy MP
bitch (Parrish) from the Liberal caucus.

His other foreign adventure was probably an afternoon in Tijuana, trying
to get drunk and laid.

I've never been to Tijuana...but I did (successfully) work on getting drunk

Up here it's the Reform/Cdn Conservative/Conservative Party of Canada who
seem to be the nutty ones.
Thought you'd be happy that Carolyn Parrish got expelled from the Liberal
caucus.

The Liberal Party has had a tight grip on power thanks to the years of Brian
Mulroney's Conservatives. He ****ed us off so much that after his second
term, only two members of his party were voted back into parliament.
Can you imagine if only two Republicans sat in your senate or house of
representatives. George W. better walk carefully.

A similar thing happened in 1994 when the Republicans regained the House and
Senate for the first time in 4 decades...all because the American voter
hated Hillary. Bill was smart enough to keep her out of sight when '96
rolled around. If anybody considers her a viable candidate for President in
'08, they're insane. She's absolutely loathed by nearly 60% of this
country. That's an amazingly shocking "hate" number for a former first
lady.

Can you imagine if only two Republicans sat in your senate or house of

Bush has long coat tails. He managed to do the unthinkable: get Daschle
ousted from the Senate. If you didn't notice, Republican Congressional
candidates ran *towards* Bush in '04...not away from him.

Two provinces sure do. Ontario has about a third of the seats in
parliament and Quebec has about a quarter.
What they want pretty much gets done. Quebec especially seems to be the
tail that wags the dog. The Atlantic provinces, with their dwindling
population and economic oportunities usually end up like stray dogs at the
banquet table...waiting for scraps to be thrown our way.
