running engine with 'muffs"
How safe is it to run an outboard out of the water but connected to a
garden hose with "muffs"? Is the water spitting a safe indicator of proper cooling? AZ |

Is there a steady stream from the tell-tale, and some water coming out the through-hub exhaust (if so equipped)? If so, you're probably fine. -- ~/Garth - 1966 Glastron V-142 Skiflite: "Blue-Boat" "There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats." -Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows |
How safe is it to run an outboard out of the water but connected to a
garden hose with "muffs"? Is the water spitting a safe indicator of proper cooling? Its perfectly safe to let the engine IDLE on the muffs. Its not a good idea to rev it. If you're really concerned, test your overheat warning circuit and alarm. ))))))* |

AZ It's safe, but don't walk into the house and have lunch while it's happening. Muffs are evil and will slip off when you're not looking. Don't ask how I know. |

By 'spitting' I am referring to the steady stream of water that is
ejected at the back of the motor when it is running. The motor is a 90hp Mercury 4-stroke. For this type of motor, when it is out of the water, should water also be ejected somewhere else, such as the through hub exhaust as you mentionned ? Garth Almgren wrote in message ... If you are getting a steady stream through the tell tale then water must be coming out of the hub. |
