Boat won't start

Ok, went out to winterize and can't get boat started. I've got fresh
gas, replaced fuel filters, checked fuel pump, and I pulled line from
carb and I'm getting fuel to the carb. I've poured a little fuel into
carb and she fires right up. I have the 4.3 carb version. Clogged carb
or jets maybe? What can I do short of taking it to the dealer?

Thanks
Keith

Most likely the needle is stuck, which isn't allowing fuel into the carb.
You can tap on the carb, near the inlet, to hopefully shock it loose. If
that doesn't work I would say it's carb rebuild time.

Choke stuck open? Just a thought.

Thanks for the reply guys, I got it going by taking out the small
screen at the fuel line carb connection (which I didn't know was
there). It looked fine, but I sprayed some carb cleaner inside the
carb connection and on the screen itself...put it all back together
and she fired right up. Go figure, It ticks me off after all that
work..it was something (I guess) that simple. Got her all winterized
unfortunately.

Hmmm ... I'm agreeing with you that if it fires up by pouring some fuel into
the carb then there must be a fuel flow probem. You've pulled the fuel line
to the carb and are getting gas to the carb ... do you mean you've checked
the pump operation and the fuel pump is pumping fuel? If not, that's where I
would start. If so, what I would try is with the line to the carb off,
somehow attach a line/tube to the carb fuel inlet and blow into the carb. If
there's no airflow by blowing then maybe the needle is stuck preventing fuel
flow into the carb and maybe by tapping on the carb (as Justin suggested) it
could be freed. Would appreciate a post when you identify the problem but
sure does sound like a failed fuel pump.

When you say "fired right up", does that mean that it fires and runs for a
few seconds while it burns off the fuel you poured in, or it fires and keeps
running?

If it keeps running then the problem isn't a stuck float or similar fuel
delivery problem. It could be the choke, or it could actually be a weak
spark situation.

It fired right up and burned the fuel that I had poured in.
