Last time I was there, I saw something you didn't mention. There was a shelter that from far off looked like it was in Bad Shape: bits of the ceiling dangling down... but when I got there to look more closely, the "ceiling" bits were driftwood, each with a boat/crew name on it. There were hundreds. No, thousands! It was an erie feeling to go into the shelter and be surrounded by the spirits of all those boats! Actually, if you endure the tale all the way through to the final paragraphs you will see a mention of the driftwood signs hanging in the Lodge- it's used as a cheap literary trick to bring it all back full circle to the initial idea, "Giants in the Earth". OK, ya caught me! I skimmed through the article and didn't find any mention of the "lodge". I'll give it a better read. As as for buying the "magazine of unknown name" - why should I: I've already read your article and what else of interest would there be? ;) As for the petrified wood: I don't get to Conover Cove too much - it's too shallow for Far Cove's keel. Next time I'm there, I WILL look for some the geological things you mentioned. I have seen the "bunker" and often wondered what it was. There's also a well (I think...) barely covered by wood nearby. And I live the "Jeep Skeleton". Maybe I'll go there next weekend... Lloyd Sumpter "Far Cove" Catalina 36 |
