O.T. CHALLENGE TO THE BUSH SUPPORTERS
In his debate, Bush clearly stated that the all volunteer military is
working just fine and there will be no draft. I am willing to bet that there will be a draft in Bushes term (if he lasts the full term). How about $100.00 per bet. I'll tenativly go with ten of you ($1,000.00). I will send my money to a third party that is trusted, or any method that will insure safety for both of us. If you agree to the bet, I will send first (money order, cashiers check or whatever works). The third party will let you know the funds are there and when they recieve your money the bet is on. Lets see how confident you really are in your new president. Dixon -- |

All the services, with the current exception of the Army, have more applicants than billets. The Army has only recently had problems meeting enlistment quotas. There are other methods to entice the recruitment and retention of qualified people such as enlistment bonuses, re-enlistment bonuses and delayed entry programs that will be deployed in lieu of a draft. Remember Kerry stating that he would increase the size of the Army by some number of divisions? I think that was part of his downfall. If the military is used the way it is supposed to be used, and not for nation building or law enforcement, the technology advantage enjoyed by the US military more than makes up for numbers. Implementation of a draft in the current world situation would be political suicide for both sides of Congress. Eisboch |
Is there someone in the group that is well known by all that would hold the
money? I feel that in four years $2,000.00 might start looking pretty tempting. I believe money orders or cashiers checks don't have an expiration date, but I'll check. There are a couple group members that are wealthy enough that 2k would not
even begin to tempt them. That would seem to be the 1st choice. -W "dixon" wrote in message news:Glpid.295768$wV.129554@attbi_s54... Dixon I'd be happy to hold it and stick it in a non-interest-bearing separate account. There are plenty of banks around here that will give you a "free" checking account - the perfect way to handle this. -- -- Karl Denninger ) Internet Consultant & Kids Rights Activist http://www.denninger.net My home on the net - links to everything I do! http://scubaforum.org Your UNCENSORED place to talk about DIVING! http://www.spamcuda.net SPAM FREE mailboxes - FREE FOR A LIMITED TIME! http://genesis3.blogspot.com Musings Of A Sentient Mind |

Some people in their ignorance like to set up their newsreader so their
posts will not be to be retrieved by Google. They thinks this will keep their posts from making it into Google. The problem is if one person responds to the post it will then be archived in Google and can easy be retrieved. "John S" wrote in message ... I'm in. Let me know where you want the $$ sent to.
However, we must be CLEAR on the definition of "draft". I've tangled with my share of politically motivated folks over the years and I want a friggin' definition of what YOU mean by "draft" posted here for all to see (cut, save). Don't forget. Kerry was the one talking about "adding" to the troops.....I dont see how that would be possible without a draft. Don "dixon" wrote in message news:gUhid.352877$3l3.340769@attbi_s03... So far I like Clams ideas. Although the honor system should work, I would suspect out of ten people there would be a few that would have some reason to ignore a bet made years earlier. I've loaned a lot of people money and I've heard it all. About half of the borrowers have good intentions, but job loss, divorce, health issues or amnesia is common. I am absolutely going to pay if I lose. Lets give this a little thought and see if any others are going to jump in. The people I hoped would take me up haven't responded, but I guess it would grieve me more to have to pay them anyway. Dixon |

I also don't want to see, after the fact, someone else's "definition" of draft. I suppose anything other than volunteer? That leaves me vulnerable to giant sign-up incentives or other types of semi-forced enticement I guess. We should all try to be fair. I also don't want to hear about some new future reason that you will say "but he no choice but to reinstate the draft". I don't want this to be like the seinfeld episode where jerry bets kramer that he won't install multi levels in his apartment. Afterwards kramer decides he really doesn't want levels and says the bet is off. What would your definition be? Dixon |

What happens when we use the military for nation building and law enforcement, as we are at the present time? Unless this changes in the future- and it won't for the next four years, we lose the advantage of our technologies. Our most effective technologies were designed to defeat sophisticated weapons systems rather than individual criminal terrorist *******s hiding among a population of innocents. |
