There are a couple group members that are wealthy enough that 2k would not
even begin to tempt them. That would seem to be the 1st choice.

So far I like Clams ideas. Although the honor system should work, I would
suspect out of ten people there would be a few that would have some reason
to ignore a bet made years earlier. I've loaned a lot of people money and
I've heard it all. About half of the borrowers have good intentions, but job
loss, divorce, health issues or amnesia is common. I am absolutely going to
pay if I lose. Lets give this a little thought and see if any others are
going to jump in. The people I hoped would take me up haven't responded, but
I guess it would grieve me more to have to pay them anyway.

I'm in. Let me know where you want the $$ sent to.

However, we must be CLEAR on the definition of "draft". I've tangled with
my share of politically motivated folks over the years and I want a

friggin'
definition of what YOU mean by "draft" posted here for all to see (cut,
save).

Don't forget. Kerry was the one talking about "adding" to the

troops.....I
dont see how that would be possible without a draft.

Don

Don, I agree with you 100%. I also don't want to see, after the fact,
someone else's "definition" of draft. I suppose anything other than
volunteer? That leaves me vulnerable to giant sign-up incentives or other
types of semi-forced enticement I guess. We should all try to be fair. I
also don't want to hear about some new future reason that you will say "but
he no choice but to reinstate the draft". I don't want this to be like the
seinfeld episode where jerry bets kramer that he won't install multi levels
in his apartment. Afterwards kramer decides he really doesn't want levels
and says the bet is off.

What would your definition be?

" Count me in.

We don't need anyone to hold the money, these posts are archived on

Google.
All we have to do is wait until the Presidents term expires, go back to
Google and bring the posts back up out of the archives. Then we can make

the
arrangements for you to pay me.

John S

John, you sound pretty confident. I wouldn't be that confident if we were
talking about no draft until his first term expires.

If the
military is used the way it is supposed to be used, and not for nation
building or law enforcement, the technology advantage enjoyed by the US
military more than makes up for numbers.

If.

What happens when we use the military for nation building and law enforcement,
as we are at the present time? Unless this changes in the future- and it won't
for the next four years, we lose the advantage of our technologies. Our most
effective technologies were designed to defeat sophisticated weapons systems
rather than individual criminal terrorist *******s hiding among a population of
innocents.

Is there someone in the group that is well known by all that would hold the
money? I feel that in four years $2,000.00 might start looking pretty
tempting. I believe money orders or cashiers checks don't have an expiration
date, but I'll check.

Set up a commercial escrow account. Absolutely neutral third party, written
instructions for
payment, etc.
