If it is the old style plugs it is a 13/16s socket size.

I wondered about that after your first post. I thought the prop on the Merc
I/Os was the same as the big Merc outboards which is 1 1/16. Since I never
owned a Merc I/O I wasn't sure.

Yeah ... I got to wondering too ... enough to make a trip down to the
basement and pop open the boat toolbox (aka Rubbermaid Storage Container) to
take a looksee.
