... http://www.sierratimes.com/04/10/20/carlworden.htm The Last Straw - Carl Worden Makes His Vote Official Carl F. Worden That's it, I've had it. o o o What I do know is that any party that would find the words, "Protect Our Civil Liberties" offensive or even threatening, is a party I won't belong to anymore. That was the last straw. There should be more people of conscience like Carl Worden, and perhaps there will be on Nov. 2. Mr. Worden is correct that their shirts said "Protect Our Civil Liberties", but he left out the "reason" the three women were ejected from the Bush rally. A volunteer felt those four words are "obscene"! snip Voorhies said the three made it through all three checkpoints and assured volunteers who questioned them that they would not disrupt the event. But when Voorhies was on her way to the bathroom, she was stopped by a volunteer who told her she wasn't welcome. She said this volunteer pointed to her shirt and said it was "obscene." Jackson County Republican Chairman Bryan Platt said he didn't see the incident but said the volunteer was trying to make a judgment about whether the women would be disruptive. "It basically just triggered his alarm," Platt said of the volunteer, whom he did not name, "and we'll stand behind that. I wish (the women) would have just dressed in a way that was without that kind of intent to incite any kind of incident." /snip The whole story as it appeared in Oregon's largest newspaper, The Oregonian, is he http://www.oregonlive.com/news/orego...8233288440.xml I've seen a picture of the three middle-aged school teachers. Their white t-shirts all had "Protect Our Civil Liberties" printed on them, and one had the U.S. flag in addition to the words. There was nothing "obscene" about the shirts. |
