That is a VERY unusual winch design and is like nothing I have ever
seen before. Only one turn around the drum? It appears to me that it
would lead to a lot of wear on the cover of the line and might be
difficult to release under load. I'd recommend replacing both the
port and starboard winch with something newer.

Never seen anything like it. It resembles a jib roller furler "line
driver" with a winch handle stuck in the top.

Very pretty boat, though. What kind is it?

Actually the winch in the picture looks pretty new to me. But unless
there is some special reason to keep them, I'd agree that replacing them
with something easier to support would be a good idea. Andersen is the
pick of the bunch.

Interesting picture. I'd like to see more of what I'm looking at.

Notice the line runs through a Harken ratcheting roller block. My guess
that is the roller furline line for the jib.

i beleave it´s an old gibb winch, but i´m not sure.
the great advantage of this winch is that you dindnt need an cleam cleat
for the line. the winch is locked the line automaticly.
i have no more pictures

Yes but any modern self tailing winch will do that also, and almost
certainly with greater safety and less wear and tear on the jib sheet.
