Rinker 272 Cuddy - 9' Beam? WTF? How big is it really?

The used boat search continues. There are a couple of Rinker 272
Captiva Cuddy's in my price range with really nice motors. Then i
found out the 272 has a 9' beam, which i think makes it technically
illegal to tow during the week (M-F), at least in my state (MI).
That's not really a big deal - it's only 6" over the limit. My
biggest concern is the opening to get it into my back yard for
storage/maintenance purposes is exactly 8'6". However, that's only
from ground level to about 4' high.

So my question is, how big is this boat really? Anybody have any
experience? Sitting on the trailer, about how far up before it gets
to it's 9' max. width? And why the 9; beam - it's a cuddy not a
cruiser? Is the extra 6" a technicality, like a protruding fairing or
something?

Thanks, -JZ

One additional thing to keep in mind is the trailer. My boat has an 8 1/2
foot beam and like most boats, the widest point is near the top. My trailer
has trailering guides that extend out and up on either side of the stern
meaning that my trailer is actually a few inches wiser than the 8 1/2 foot
beam of my boat. If the boat you purchase has a similar setup, then you
have to worry about thetrailer too.

Good luck

Frank
