Default Afghan Election Plagued by Fraud

Polling irregularities mar historic Afghan election

"...plagued by fraud..."??

"polling irregularities"??

Those Afghan elections ran remarkably smoothly. They were not plagued by
fraud or irregularities, they were plagued [in some places] by the wrong ink
for thumb markers! I did a lot of work in Afghanistan many years ago, and
this sort of thing is commonplace, and not necessarily;y indicative of
chicanery.

As an aside, I happened to be listening to Air America last night, and they
were spreading the story as hard fact that the ink question in Afghanistan
had to do with the printing on the official ballots being erasable. Clearly
either unprofessional or unethical or, likely, both.

All the candidates but one withdrew.

Because they didn't win in a fair election. Ask the DNC what you are
supposed to do when you don't win?

Polls showed in advance that no candidate was close to surpassing Karzai.
The balance of the tribal candidates seized upon this ink business as an
excuse to cause a stir and perhaps convince some uninformed foolish monitors
to cancel the whole deal. Pure red herring, and, it would seem, rational
heads are prevailing in Afghanistan -- which in and of itself is a
remarkable advancement.
