Alum boat bench seat repair

14' Aluminum boat

I'm missing the center bench seat. The other two seats have plywood
wrapped with a type of sheet metal that looks galvanized. I tried using
flashing from Lowes but that does not work. What is this metal and
where can I get it?

Probably aluminum. Did you try a magnet yet? Aluminum flashing is also
available. They may look like galvanized steel because of their age.

Rather than metal, you can coat some marine plywood with a heavy varnish-type
product. There are several out there that will seal it very well.

Find a sheet metal shop in your yellow pages. The metal in question if
prolly alluminum...bout 14 ga if it's used to cover plywood. Make the seat
from plywood, fit it and then take it to the sheet metal shop for covering.
Shear it twice, 4 simple bends on a press brake and you're done:-)

If you want, you could use cardboard to shape/form a complete seat out of
alluminum...supports and all.
