Don't get too down on things Chris. I've been with the group for about a
month. With immediate and liberal use of subject filters and with my
news reader calls a bozo list (ignore sender filter) you can actually
pick up some good information on boating.

This morning the list had two hundred plus messages waiting too be
downloaded. By the time the filters did their thing I received all of 18
messages that actually had boating content. The usual average is
somewhat greater. Around fifty percent.

yea - even with message filters, (which filter about 50%), there are still
stealth OT's and many thread highjacks. Try the forums at iboats.com-
excellent stuff.

Stop, will ya? If you read the boating messages, you'll notice that the same
people who are at one another's throats in political discussions manage to
switch gears completely and act civilized when answering boating questions.
Ignore the threads that don't interest you and read the ones that do.
Simple.

Bull****, your saying it's ok to break Usenet rules and the people
complaining are in the wrong. Bottom line is the people posting these off
topic posts are in the wrong, and people have the right to complain, Simple.

I think you missed Doug's point.

You can beat your head against this wall all you like. He was just offering you
a helmet to cushion the blows a bit.

political arguments should be more polite and take it elsewhere.

mechanical knowledge to share so dont be shy.

Perhaps if you were to post a boating related question, it would get
answered. But, alas, your above flame puts you right in the same group
as those you are whining about.

Not a flame just a fact. I put some filters on and got a big 12 msgs about
boats. My subject was about boats. Although from what I see this must be
alt.politics not rec.boats

One more thing. This news group is not just to post questions. It is for boating
related subject matter whether questions or statements.

This will be my last post on this subject however. Just wanted to see if others
felt the same way or not and see if some of those who post OT maybe would slow
down a little, but I do not see that happening.

No it does not, not even close. But good try.

A quick Google search shows you to be a typical OT whiner.
Over 50% of your most recent posts are to OT threads.

Hypocrite.

So what your saying is because I lurk mostly I can't express my opinion on
assholes who post OT all the time? Because I post only to whine about OT
posts (50% of the time) it makes it ok to post off topic? So everyone has
the right to post off topic? I see your point...you make perfect sense. I
hate that people here turn the arguement around - If there were no OT posts
would I still be a hypocrite?

Glenn---- The problem is selfishness - all OT people don't give a crap
about anyone else and probably would wave at the people stranded on a
sinking ship.

No, I'm didn't say that at all.
I do think it's funny that you whine about OT topics while at the same time
posting to them.

Because I post only to whine about OT

Read for content.
I didn't say you post 50% of the time to whine. I said, 50% of the time or more
you are posting to OT topics.
That makes you, IMHO, a hypocrite.

So everyone has
the right to post off topic?

You seem to.
So why doesn't anybody else?

I see your point...you make perfect sense.

Well of course. Thanks. :-)

I hate that people here turn the arguement around - If there were no OT posts

If there were no OT posts you would not be posting to them nor whinning about
them now would you.

would I still be a hypocrite?

I guess not.

sinking ship.

Or in your case, wave at the people waving at the stranded people.
