Evinrude kill switch

I own a 2000 Evinrude 9.9 4 stroke manual start. What is the proper way to
kill this motor? The emergency kill switch is hard to use. Will it hurt to
kill it with the choke? Needless to say I don't have the manual.

Using the choke floods the engine.... not a good thing! Need I go further?

Most of the tiller steered engines I've had had a button on the end of the
tiller that grounded out the spark. If you engine doesn't ??? I'd be
surprised. The kill switch has never been used, on any of my engines, to
stop it. Maybe something came loose or.... you can add a grounding
switch?? RichG

The end of the tiller just has a hard plastic cap held on by friction. There
is nothing under it. I wonder how Evinrude says to stop it.
