Mooring whips

Why are they so darn expensive? ($2-300 for a stick and a line is expensive,
IMO.)

I agree. It's just a tapered fiberglass pole.

Had the same trouble with a part for my tundra. Wife backed the tailgate
into something while it was down. I fixed up the small dent but wanted to
replace the gray plastic strip across the top since it got banged up a bit
too. It just goes across the top edge and pops in with some of the plastic
fasteners. I figured 20-30 bucks or so. Wrong, $103 from toyota. Checked
two dealers cause I could not believe it.

Try a junkyard. They're usually a good source for parts like
these. I broke a tail light lens a few years back on a car they
don't make any more. I found a similar make & model in the yard,
and got my replacement part for a couple of bucks and a little
time twirling a screwdriver.
