Mercury 50 horse electrical troubles...?

Howdy,

Anyone out there know of electrical troubles with a Mercury 50 horse
outboard?

It is a "Bigfoot" EFI four stoke that I am specifically interested in
knowing more about.

Sincere thanks for any information,

I have a 60 EFI BF and I am not having electrical problems. What do you have
going on?
BTW there is a known cooling problem related to salt water but Mercury seems to
be hoping it will go away.

Howdy,

It's not me... It is a friend whose outboard caught fire. Merc is
making good on the thing, but my buddy is, shall we say, a bit
concerned.

He was told that there was some vibration, some abrasion, shorting,
and then the electrics caught fire. One thing we both wonder about is
the apparent lack of protective fuses etc.

He is simply trying to find out whether these have been problems that
others have seen. A fire on a boat is no trivial matter...

Thanks for any further thoughts,

Hello again,

Silly me, I hadn't thought that a dealer was likely to know of your
experiences with the motor...

All the best,
