That would be a challenge, since she was decommissioned in 1999, about
5 years before PARCHE.

HawksPill?

Hawksbill, more likely.
Interesting hull number.
SSN-666.

That's one sweet looking ride! :-) But, what's it resting on, in the
pictures where it's on land? The rollers (or whatever) look so
insubstantial.

I just wish they'd ask around a bit before decommissioning old ones. Some of
us might find them handy.

Have a look at this photo:
http://www.news.navy.mil/management/...-0000C-001.jpg

Those 'rollers' don't look too insubstantial to me. Note the size of
them in comparison to nearby people. I count at least 24 of them.

OK. That looks better. Just wanted to be sure my tax dollars were being
pampered correctly. :-)

What a gas it must be, building something like that....

Don't worry yourself. Ship transfer systems are rather heavily built.
I don't think anyone's dropped a ship yet....

I'd be surprised if the wheels themselves are any more than 24" in
diameter. There's no reason to have big wheels if you're carrying a
heavy load slowly.

I've got a much closer view of a similar system under DDG 90:

I don't know how similar BIW's system is to EB's, but I'm sure they're
somewhat close.

Wow. Do you speak to everyone with such a smarmy tone? There's a new class
on how to interact with people effectively down at the community
college.....

My tone is not smarmy, but yours is assinine.

It's a fact that text does not convey inflection or tone well. People
who see "smarmy" in everyone's posts tend to confuse "brief" with
"smarmy". They're not the same thing.

Besides, the question was not meant to be taken seriously (or it was
amazingly silly). Any reasonable person will see that, even if the
wheels look small, they're obviously substantial enough for the job.

USS Parche, SSN-683 is, according to the Naval Vessel Register,

Parche is currently on deployment. My understanding is she will
decomm at the conclusion of the current deployment.

Some interesting things in those pictures...

The barn she's coming out of is the facility formerly used to build
726's. Were all the 21's built there, or was just the Carter modified
there? (The LH barn is the one used for building 688's.)
